Why Holi is forbidden in Islam???

1) Holi is a festival of Non-Muslims:

It is not allowed to celebrate or even wish the festivals of Non-Muslims in Islam.

Sheikh Muhammed Salih Al-Munajjid says in his fatwa,
.
"...Muslims are forbidden to imitate the kuffaar by having parties on such occasions, or exchanging gifts, or giving out sweets or food, or taking time off work, etc., because the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) said: "Whoever imitates a people is one of them." Shaykh al-Islaam Ibn Taymiyah said in his book Iqtidaa’ al-siraat al-mustaqeem mukhaalifat ashaab al-jaheem: "Imitating them in some of their festivals implies that one is pleased with their false beliefs and practices, and gives them the hope that they may have the opportunity to humiliate and mislead the weak."

Whoever does anything of this sort is a sinner, whether he does it out of politeness or to be friendly, or because he is too shy to refuse, or for whatever other reason, because this is hypocrisy in Islaam, and because it makes the kuffaar feel proud of their religion...."

2) Holi paves the way to touch Non-Maharam males and females:
.
On the Holi festival, males and females touch one another to colour themselves.
.
Islam does not give the permission to touch the Non-Maharam(who can be marriageable by anyhow in life) females by the males or Non-Maharam males by the females.
.
Among the evidence for this is the hadeeth of Ma’qal ibn Yassaar (may Allaah be pleased with him) who said:
.
“The Messenger of Allaah (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) said:
.
‘If one of you were to be struck in the head with an iron needle, it would be better for him than **if he were to touch a woman he is not allowed to**.”

3) Holi allows of free-mixing of opposite gender:
.
Holi allows unmarried male and female to be close to each other and to mix freely which is forbidden in Islam.

"Tell the believing men to lower their gaze (from looking at forbidden things), and protect their private parts (from illegal sexual acts, etc.). That is purer for them. Verily, Allah is All-Aware of what they do.

And tell the believing women to lower their gaze (from looking at forbidden things), and protect their private parts (from illegal sexual acts, etc.) and not to show off their adornment except only that which is apparent...."

4) Holi can be the cause of pollution and wastage of water:
.
Islam inspires for purity. Quran says,
.
"Truly, Allah loves those who turn to Him constantly and He loves those who keep themselves pure and clean."

Again it is ordered not to waste anything,
.
"O Children of Adam! Take your adornment (by wearing your clean clothes), while praying and going round (the Tawaf of) the Ka'bah, and eat and drink but **waste not by extravagance, certainly He (Allah) likes not Al-Musrifun (those who waste by extravagance)**."

But water wastage and hazardous toxics for environment can be possible due to the practice of Holi festival.

“The wastage of water could be estimated that while playing Holi, a person uses at least two buckets of water. A bucket is of 15 litres, which means that about 30 litres of water is wasted by a person on Holi. If about five lakh persons play with water on Holi, then 150 lakh litres of water would be wasted”

“Endorsing that water is misused during Holi, Institute of Environmental Entrepreneurship, Research, Education and Development (IEREED) have urged the revellers to play Holi with flowers. CK Chabbra of IREED said, “The wastage of water is high during the festival. Nearly two crore litres of water is wasted in a small city and one can imagine the quantum of loss for a big city like Lucknow.” He added people waste water not only while applying colours but also removing it. The toxic chemicals harm the skin and pollute the water causing severe damage to the environment.”
